From our Poetry Club!

12

June 26, 2012 by D.W. Earnhardt

We have a small poetry filled with young writers (all under the age of 12). Sometimes they ask for help, and we give it. But most of the older ones work independently and know what they want to write. We are really proud of these young writers!

Here are some examples of their recent poems…

;

My Little Pig by Lilly E.W.

I have a little pig

The cleanest little pig

He never goes outside

For he frets

getting wet

I try to put some sense

in my little, little pig…

“Getting dirty is okay, go outside and play!”

He never ever listens

I love him anyway!

;

MY PET CHICK by Zoe E.

I have a baby chick

It’s name is Steve Hick

I think I want more

‘Cause they’re sweet to the core!

;

Things I want to do this Summer by Casey E.

Go to the zoo

Play in the pool

Visit the beach

Vacation Bible School

Go to my Grandma’s

Go on vacation

Pick veggies from the garden

Celebrate our nation

Sleep late, watch cartoons

Play outside with friends

Fish, hike, camp, read

Until the summer ends!

    Wonderful poems. I enjoyed reading them. I hope the kids had fun with the writing. If the kids want another place to publish their poems, children’s poet David Harrison has a page for kids on his blog.

  2. Donna,
    This is a wonderful service for your community and especially for the kids who attend. I’m so proud of you. Please tell your poets that reading their poetry is fun, even for us grownups. Thanks for being you!

  3. Cute poems! Isn’t it fun to teach and see what develops? Write on!

  4. Donna, Kudos to you for doing this. What an awesome lady you are. But I must also give accolades to those kids for writing poetry & putting it out there. Writing is rhyme is NOT easy! Give them all a pat on the back from me!

    Wonderful stuff! My sixth grade grand daughter is a poet, also. Isn’t it fun to play around with words, kids?
